Our Story

Our Story

"The objects you surround yourself with shape the person you become."

Where it began

I grew up in Osaka, surrounded by manga stacked to the ceiling and anime running on a small TV in the corner of our living room. To me, these weren't just cartoons or comics — they were entire worlds. Philosophies. A way of seeing beauty in the quiet, the precise, the intentional.

When I moved to the United States for university, I brought that sensibility with me. But I quickly noticed something: the anime community here was massive, passionate, deeply knowledgeable — and almost entirely underserved when it came to the physical objects we use every day.

The keycaps were generic. The deskmats were loud in the wrong way. The accessories felt like afterthoughts.

The idea behind Komorei

Komorei — 光漏れ日 — is a Japanese word for the interplay of light and leaves when sunlight filters through trees. A transient moment of beauty, noticed only by those who pause. Kanso — 簡素 — is the Zen principle of purposeful simplicity. Not minimalism for aesthetics, but reduction to reveal what is essential.

These two ideas are the foundation of everything we curate.

What we believe

Every product in this store passed a single question: would it belong on a desk that respects the craft?

We say no to clutter. We say yes to pieces that earn their place — items chosen for the person who finds poetry in a perfectly weighted keycap, who understands that a well-chosen deskmat is a daily act of intention.

We work directly with suppliers to bring these pieces to you at prices that make sense. No inflated margins. No hollow luxury. Just quality, made accessible to the community that deserves it.

A note on trust

We are a small, independent studio. Every order matters to us. If something arrives and it is not right, we will make it right — no questions, no friction.

This is not a policy. It is a value.

Thank you for being here.
